The collection includes a clipping from an unidentified newspaper listing University of Virginia 1861 graduates. Of interest are two other notices in the same column as the clipping: one a derogatory comment about Harriet Beecher Stowe's "Pearl of Orr's Island" and its "pious and impossible niggers;" one a notice that "the ladies have taken charge of the sick soldiers in the hospital at Leesburg, Va." On the verso are news articles on the confiscation of Union and Confederate property behind the lines and on European immigrants joining the Union army.
